The Four Sibling Gods
Geb and Nut gave birth to four children. It was around these four Gods that many of Egyptian Myths revolved.
-Osiris, The God of the Dead and the Underworld
- Isis, The Goddess of Motherhood and Magic
-Nephthys, Goddess of Death
-Set, The God of Chaos and Storms
Osiris
Osiris is known as the God of death and the ruler of the Underworld. He is shown as a man with blue or green skin, much like a corpse. Osiris lives in the Underworld where it tends to the souls of the dead (Pinch, 2002).
Isis
Isis is known as the Goddess of motherhood, fertility and magic. She is revered as a kind and powerful goddess and a force for good. Her name meant “Throne” and she was often associated with the Pharaoh’s divine right to rule. Often she was represented with a throne on her headdress. Isis was also Osiris’s wife and consort (Budge, 1969).
Set
Set was known as the God of storms, chaos and the desert. Despite this, he serves a protective role in some Egyptian myths. He is portrayed with the head of a Set Animal. The Set animal was a mythical creature closely associated with Set (Remler, 2010).
Nephthys
Nephthys was known as the Goddess of death, service and lamentation. She was closely associated with mummies and funerals. Nephthys is a counterpart to her sister Isis. Where Isis represents rebirth, Nephthys represents death. Nephthys was also Set’s wife and consort (Remler, 2010).
